為了重塑人們對日本南部鐵器的認知,此款鐵壺成為重要的促進因素。這款鐵壺是由及富第六代傳人的次子菊地章於昭和時代(1926-1989年)後期所設計,創作的初衷是為了發掘鐵壺的潛力,讓更多人被鐵壺所吸引。
章的妻子在創作時敏銳地觀察到完成後的鐵壺外觀宛如燕子般,因而將其命名為「燕形鐵壺」。
當這款作品問世時,日本南部鐵器的主流仍是傳統設計,因而使得這款創新設計難被顧客接受,導致其停產。然而,在歷經30多年的歲月後,隨著生活方式的不斷改變,經由2020年在Twitter上採取的策略性介紹,燕形鐵壺終於得以復興。其熱烈的反響促使此款鐵壺的復刻生產,成為一款永恆的傑作。
在鐵壺的製作過程中絕不可或缺的環節就是對內部採取釜燒法進行高溫烘烤,是煉製鐵壺過程中必不可少的步驟。這款重生的鐵壺不僅適用於燒水,也適用於補充鐵質。
木製蓋鈕雖然曾一度遭時代淘汰,如今的重現不僅恢復原始設計,還進一步升級。丸三漆器工房使用岩手縣傳統工藝品之一的秀衡塗,對蓋鈕施以精緻的擦漆裝飾。
與傳統的易傳熱鐵製蓋鈕不同,木製蓋鈕確保了茶壺的可觸碰性。此外,蓋鈕上的塗漆還具有非常卓越的防水效果。
