لقد احتلت البومة دائمًا مكانة مرموقة كرمز للحظ السعيد بسبب تشابهها الصوتي مع عبارة "لا مشقة".
يشير المصطلح "不 (FU)" إلى النفي، بينما يشير المصطلح "苦労 (KUROU)" إلى المشقة.
