DESCRIPTION
We take pleasure in presenting a distinctive Tetsubin, distinct from those fashioned by Oitomi. This particular Tetsubin has been meticulously crafted by Shingo Kikuchi (菊池真吾), a seasoned traditional craftsman hailing from Shokado. His workshop is situated in Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture, coinciding with our own locale.
The silhouette, known as "HOUJYU-GATA" (derived from the shape of a sacred jewel), is adorned with the traditional Arare pattern. On the lid's handle, a chrysanthemum flower is delicately crafted. The intentional perforations resembling insect holes on the chrysanthemum petals are a form of deliberate decoration known as "mushikui," reflecting the philosophy of wabi-sabi.
A distinctive feature is the random placement of these insect hole designs, creating a unique arrangement for each handle.
The handle, made by the rare forging technique, is a precious feature of this kettle. The perforated design on the handle, also referred to as "mushikui," is intentionally applied.
Of late, the availability of larger 2.0L products has witnessed a decline.
Internally, a technique called kama-yaki has been employed to coat the surface with an oxidized film, eschewing the application of any paint.
This particular Tetsubin commands a higher price in comparison to its counterparts. Yet, due to the implementation of the Yaki-gata method, its resolute adherence to bold and traditional aesthetic compositions, and the intimate inscription of the traditional craftsman, "南部 真吾" (Nambu Shingo), this exceptional Tetsubin is poised to be your lifelong companion.
