DESCRIPTION

We are delighted to introduce a remarkable Tetsubin that distinguishes itself from those crafted by Oitomi. This extraordinary piece is the creation of Shingo Kikuchi (菊池真吾), an esteemed traditional craftsman whose atelier is situated in Shokado, Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture - the very same city we call home.

The designation of "traditional craftsman" is a formal recognition granted by the Japanese government to artisans who uphold and master advanced techniques and skills. Within the realm of Nambu Ironware, a select few hold this esteemed title, and Shingo Kikuchi proudly stands as one of them.

This iron kettle is crafted using kama-yaki (high temperature baking treatment) method.

Due to changes in lifestyle, larger-sized iron kettles have become precious commodities.

The silhouette features a design known as "Nambu-gata," which developed in the former Nambu domain.

On the lid of the iron kettle, flower buds are depicted on the handle, with intentional perforations known as "mushikui" creating a unique design.

The lid of the iron kettle features a pine cone and bamboo pattern on the handle. The main motif is the "Magnolia" flower.

Magnolia is said to originate from China and blooms around April in Japan. The adoption of the magnolia pattern is rare for iron kettles.

The subtle touch of Shingo Kikuchi's modest sculptural expression and the formation of magnolia petals create a harmonious feeling, offering a glimpse into his own worldview.

The interior is coated with an oxidized film from kettle firing, without any paint applied to the inner surface.

Wipe off the excess water around the lid and other parts well, as discoloration and rusting can easily occur.
Please note that cooking near this pot may result in oil stains and discoloration due to oil splashes.
If the gas flame reaches the body of the pot, the part is likely to discolor, so be careful not to increase the heat too much.

To make tea and coffee great

The water boiled in Nambu iron kettle tastes mellow and sweet even when drunk straight.

This is due to the effect of iron leaching into the hot water, but in order for the iron to leach out, the inside cannot be enameled or otherwise treated, and rust is liable to occur.

Nambu ironware is baked using the traditional technique called kama-yaki to produce an oxide layer on the surface. It leads to "rust resistance" and "water quality improvement" and makes tea and coffee taste better.
