DESCRIPTION
We are delighted to introduce a remarkable Tetsubin that distinguishes itself from those crafted by Oitomi. This extraordinary piece is the creation of Kousei Oikawa(及川光正) aka Saihou(齋峰), an esteemed traditional craftsman whose atelier is situated in Seiryudo(成龍堂)
, Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture - the very same city we call home.
The designation of "traditional craftsman" is a formal recognition granted by the Japanese government to artisans who uphold and master advanced techniques and skills. Within the realm of Nambu Ironware, a select few hold this esteemed title, and Kousei Oikawa proudly stands as one of them.
It is characterized by its beautiful silhouette, harmonious Arare pattern, and the lovely size of the plucking on the lid. The lid pick is called “Musukui” and looks as if it has been bite by an insect.
The handle is made by forging a single sheet of iron, and is called a "Fukurozuru", which is a valuable handle. Because it is hollow inside, it is difficult for the body to transfer heat and does not get hot easily.
It is finished with a rust-proofing finish using the traditional “kama-yaki” technique, which has been handed down since ancient times, and is finished with a “lacquer baking finish,” which is a traditional manufacturing method.
This Tetsubin is more expensive than other Tetsubin. However, with the Yaki-gata method, bold and traditional aesthetic compositions, and the personal inscription of the traditional craftsman, "南部齋峰"(Nambu Saihou)", this special Tetsubin will be your partner for life.
