DESCRIPTION

We are delighted to introduce a remarkable Tetsubin that distinguishes itself from those crafted by Oitomi. This extraordinary piece is the creation of Shingo Kikuchi (菊池真吾), an esteemed traditional craftsman whose atelier is situated in Shokado, Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture - the very same city we call home.

The title of "traditional craftsman" is a distinction bestowed by the Japanese government upon artisans who uphold advanced techniques and expertise. Within the realm of Nambu ironware, there exist only a select few traditional craftsmen, and Shingo Kikuchi is an esteemed member of this group.

Nambu ironware is crafted through two distinct methods: Nama-gata, involving sand molds, and Yaki-gata, utilizing clay molds that are fired. As this particular Tetsubin has been fashioned via the Yaki-gata technique, only a limited number of pieces can emerge from a single mold, rendering it an exceptionally rare creation.

Dubbed the "Fuji style Tetsubin," this piece draws its name from the iconic Mt. Fuji, symbolizing Japan. The Fuji style echoes an ancient form, once gracing tea ceremony kettles fashioned centuries ago and still cherished in the present day.

Furthermore, on the sides, pine needles (Matsuba) are featured, while a pinecone motif embellishes the lid.

The intentionally weathered aspects and the rusted surface finishing encapsulate the concept of "Sabi," a uniquely Japanese aesthetic rooted in the philosophy of the evolving beauty celebrated within the tea ceremony.

The interior is coated with an oxidized film achieved through a technique called kama-yaki, eschewing the use of any paints.

The unyielding handle boasts a "Sukashi-tsuru (透かし鉉)" design, featuring a perforation, a form that has become increasingly rare.

While this Tetsubin commands a higher price point than its counterparts, its utilization of the Yaki-gata method, bold adherence to traditional aesthetics, and the personal inscription of the traditional craftsman, Shingo Kikuchi(菊池真吾), collectively cement this extraordinary Tetsubin as a lifelong companion.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

When using induction heating, use low to medium heat.
Do not wash with detergent.
Do not wash using a sponge or scrubber.
Wipe off the excess water around the lid and other parts well, as discoloration and rusting can easily occur.
Please note that cooking near this pot may result in oil stains and discoloration due to oil splashes.
If the gas flame reaches the body of the pot, the part is likely to discolor, so be careful not to increase the heat too much.
Used over an open flame, the base will gradually turn white.

To make tea and coffee great

The water boiled in Nambu iron kettle tastes mellow and sweet even when drunk straight.

This is due to the effect of iron leaching into the hot water, but in order for the iron to leach out, the inside cannot be enameled or otherwise treated, and rust is liable to occur.

Nambu ironware is baked using the traditional technique called kama-yaki to produce an oxide layer on the surface. It leads to "rust resistance" and "water quality improvement" and makes tea and coffee taste better.
